Iv been looking at the mirror lately, wondering what to do with my african hair, bearing in mind that I am one of those who try to keep it as natural as possible; no extensions or weaves...
But now they are at a point where no comb wants to make the effort, no treatment wants to even try!
As a result of that I want a change; I want to CUT it SHORTER...mind you I have been growing it since childhood it was an inheritance from my Mother... What would she say If I broke out the news that: I want to cut my hair knowing very well how she saw herself in me by the strength of my hair, she won't be the only reason for my hesitation however I won't give her that much credit...
I am battling with one more little thing, called; CONFIDENCE!!
How will I look?
Will I lose my feminine touch?
What will people think?
Should I venture into this whole different world?
My mind has those questions in rotation like a popular song on a Radio station!
BUT all hope is not swallowed by my doubt, I do get a little of inspiration from totally bald women, I see how their inner beauty radiate through baldness, the confidence oozing like lava from an erupting volcano!
Those are the type of women I look up to, not casting out the one's who put weave on its all about how beautiful does what you put on your head make you feel...
The 6 inches to the longest; I am talking about the Bonang Matheba's, the Minnie Dlamini's who even end up being brand ambassadors of expensive weaves! Making a simple fiber part of a woman's beauty!
And you have the likes of Anele Mdoda and Boitumelo Thulo who Rock their short hair anyhow! that's what I like
BUT what do you think I should do?
A pair of scissors? If so how short?
In which direction?
And what style?!
I am a woman who is beautiful, long haired or with an afro,
But Now I want a change...
Its a dilemma.
"A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life"-Coco Chanel

Really hope you don't cut your hair, but then again if you cut it you will still look beautiful!
ReplyDeletewow that's so sweet @ayabonga qamarana, but now that you've said that which look do i go for? do I stay the same or do I dare to cut it and still look beautiful....
DeleteI say comb ur hair bcz the festive season is here and you will be frustrated. So do an afro
DeleteAn afro? Understood, thank you thandiswa mpiti for your advice
DeleteBeauty is in the eye of the beholder, if you feel confident in what you have on you can face any weather. chose what is suitable for you but personally I love short hair now and then gives the hair a new start. Be brave and try something new. good luck as you enter the world of the BOLD!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell said...
DeleteUH... Few points. I don't think you should stress that much about your hair. I really think the reason it's being "difficult" is because of the fact that we just came out of winter, it probably suffered a bit during winter.
ReplyDeleteAs for not wanting to disappoint your mom... I don't know her but I think what would matter the most is not the fact that you cut your hair shorter but the fact that it's still natural.
Now, confidence. I generally define confidence as: The acute awareness of one's ability and power. So you can clearly see that it's something from within that is projected outward. Now without that confidence, which is within you, regardless of what you do on the outside it possibly will not look good simply because of that lack of confidence. After all, looks are based mostly on perception, yours!!! So no matter how many people tell you how beautiful you look, if you don't believe it then it's all just words.
Here's something to think about. The amount of make-up a woman wears is inversely proportional to her self confidence. The more make-up she has on, the less self confidence she has.
